[TECH] Side Draughts with Carbs

The size of carb needed has to do with air flow. An all out 1600 with
big valves and full race porting would probably need more air ( carb size )
than a stock 2000. If your carb size is too big then you have a problem with
air velocity and the jetting is much harder to get right. I used to have a
1000 cc Moto-Guzzi motorcycle which most tuners recommended using two single
throat 36 mm Delorotos on a well ported engine. I was able to buy a pair of
40's for a great price but I will tell you tho they worked excellant when we
were done it took us days of changing slides, needles and jets to get them
so that it didn't go flat when you twisted the throttle hard. We are
talking about an output of about 90 horses here from 1000 cc.
If you are going to drive on the street I would recommend staying on the
conservative side when choosing carb size. I'm planing on building a pretty
all out carbed engine for serious street playing and a little auto-crossing
and I'm going to use a small 4 barrel with vacuum secondairies which my
mechanic and I feel will be much more tractable and easier to set up than a
pair of dual throat Webers, Delorottos of Solexs
