Motor Mount Question




Well, when I took the JH engine out of the project car the side mounts were
so bad that the bolts had bent and would refuse to be removed from the
motor mount. I ended up simply cutting them off beside the mount and
getting new bolts and nuts for the reinstall.

Problem is, when you take a saws-all to the bolts, those rubber "gaskets"
around the mounts get pretty messed up.  So I have had the dealer trying to
get me a set.  

Well, it looks like after all this time looking around, they have
discovered that they are discontinued (no surprise) and have been replaced
with a new one.  SO he ordered me in the new one and it look like a small
simple rubber ring (about the size of a rubber washer to go over the end of
the mount.


My question is:  What are these large pieces of rubber in between the 8V
mount and supposed to do?  The mount goes through the hole in the center,
so the best I can figure is that they are simply used incase of any twist
in the mount, it protects the surface of the mount from the body.  

Any one installed an engine with out them?  Any opinions on leaving them
out, rather than hunting up a set from a wrecker?  

The engine is installed now with out them, but it is just getting to the
road. so I figured I should find out if they are really needed before I
start testing this thing...
