MK2 cluster "foil" question



So, I just got a 160 mph sppedo cluster.  The one with the upshift light and
the temp on the lower left of the 7K tach.
The "foil" circuitry is damaged wher one of the big connectors USED TO BE.
I have a MK2 cluster that was from a 8v so the 120 speedo and the 6k tach
with an intact "foil"  You know where I am going with th\is....  If the only
difference is the "scale" of the 2 main dial type gauges tach/speedo couldnt
the foil be swapped.  Im thinking that the other functions are the same and
would have the same "pin-outs" on the 2 big connectors.  The speedo is
mechanically driven and the tach gets its signal from a somewhat outside
source.  Im goig to try it unless I get some discouraging feedback.  Chime
in if you have info on this or even a theory.
