Still hosed.

The only time I've ever had this problem was due to rust on the carrier.
There was enough near the outer edges to stop the caliper from sliding back
on with the new pads. Some quick sanding and anti-seize was all it took.

Ok, I'll admit it. I'm desperate for attention. So, I'm sending this out
again, hoping someone can help me:

I need help! I'm trying to put new front disc brake components on my '82
8v. Everything went well with the driver's side - new disc, new pads, and
the caliper slipped back on with no problem.
On the passenger side, however, it hasn't been so easy. I got the old stuff
off with no problem, but when I put the new disc and pads on, I couldn't get
the caliper back on. I can slide it on, over the pads, and aaaaalmost get
it to drop in all the way, but it stops about 4mm short. It appears that
the disc is slightly too big. The inside of the caliper is hitting on the
disc, which is preventing the caliper from sliding all the way on and
dropping into the brake pad carrier.
However, I measured the old disc against the new, and they're the same, in
fact, because of rust, the old one appears slightly larger.

Anybody ever experience a stubborn caliper before? Any ideas? suggestions?
Volkswagen Voodoo spells? I'm at wit's end. The rear brakes and driver's
side front brake took me one evening to do; I've spent two days and an
evening just trying to get this !@*&%# caliper back together. It's getting
close to sledgehammer time.
In case anyone needs to know: ATE caliper/carrier, new ATE non-vented rotor
disc, generic pads.

Thanks for any help!
