Smoke em if you got em - Roc'n in a Free World 2k2 After Action Report

Well,

Today I had a great chance to ride along with some other Rocco
enthusiasts through some of Northern California's twisty mountain
passes.

Up to Skyline and Down to Pescadero by the Sea, lots of new asphalt on
old assed donkey trails, some single tracking & a few lost sheep later
we split some off to return to the 'real world' and others met for diner
in San Mateo.

To quote Popeye's long lost Papa; "Back to Civilization? After All.
These. Years?"

Fun was had by all, no road kill was attributed to our party and the
caravan didn't wrinkle any sheet metal. Also along the way our merry
band of travelers was passed by a pair of San Mateo County Sheriff
mobiles at full clip. It must be fun to tear up the road with a siren at
hand. <sigh> It was somewhat anticlimactic to discover none of our group
was the cause of the brouhaha. Maybe next time.

There was however a nice hot corner to contend with, complete with
Redwood trees' equivalent of loose pine needles & as lead car it was
hard for me to believe any one was hot on our bumper and able to follow
,(ummm, ) Ken's Mk2 with the wild paint scheme.

So when he decided slowing down was the better part of valor and sticky
tires weren't stickn' enough I expected those behind us to have followed
at a respective distance. Little did I know we had more than a few other
cars doing the Smoky Mountains 4 Wheel Quickstep.

At least 5 and maybe more automobiles decided to express why some folks
really appreciate ABS. ;])

After this you might think we had more sense but no, the ragged edge was
close at hand. Nonetheless skill won out over circumstance and only at
the end did we get separated from part of our group as the only
unfortunate part of the day.

In any case Little Bo Peep was looking out for us and those who were
lead astray were returned to the fold, and none were left far afield.

I'm home now, after retrieving the GF's car from a locked parking lot.
Only Unka Kev knows my Harry Houdini type prestidigitation success
secrets on that one. It's good to have a friend when in need, indeed.

As I write this I am absorbed in reverie, and allow myself a small
aperitif of Pepsi and Barbadian Rum.

Best wishes to you all and for those who couldn't make it, fie on thee.
Make more effort next time.

This has been a missive from your fateful correspondent.
