Need your help! Question about my 16v

If his problem is the same as mine was (also an '87 16V), it goes totally
flat when you try to take off from a start in a semi-brisk manner.  Even
though your foot is almost floored, the car accelerates (in first gear) like
the throttle is barely above idle.  Then, at about 3k rpm, the power hits so
hard you can literally hear a 'bang'.

My 16v acted like this when I got some crappy gas and clogged the injectors.
Turns out I was running on 3 cylinders.  But if I kept the revs up, BAM, the
#2 cylinder would kick in and all of that overcompensating I was doing (for
the lack of power) would feel like a turbo boost.  Check the flow of the
injectors.  If you find that they're clogged, replace them and the fuel
filter.
