sunroof woes

now that i'm driving the yet unnamed $200 rocco, i noticed that it had a bad 
sunroof seal and was leaking water. also the sunroof needed a little help in 
closing from the vent position (needed to be nudged toward the front of the 
car), and alot of help getting into and closing from the full open position. 
after finding out seals are $50 or more, i went the cheapass way i put a 
sunroof in that i conviently had lying around the garage that had a good 
seal(now she's officially three different colors). now the roof works 
perfectly as a vent roof, but not at all if you try to open it all the way. 
anyone familiar with this problem? it seems to me that it might be hanging 
up on the rain gutter that rides behind the roof. is there some kind of 
alignment trick that i'm missing? any help or suggestions are appreciated, 
i've done everything i could think of.
