My16V dies

I was just sitting at the stop light when the car
shuts off. I didn't hear any abnormal sounds. It
wasn't running too hot. The car just died. A policemen
helped me get the car off the road. I had it towed to
work, which was where I was heading. At work I notice
something is up with the timing belt. It is not
turning as I run the starter. I remove the timing belt
cover and see teeth missing. That must be it. I figure
I must have done some serious damage. The funny thing
is, the belt has barely 30k on it. What could have
caused those teeth to go like that? I think I got some
rebuilding ahead of me. Any advice about what to do
next would be appreciated.
