Ticking lifter(s)

Lifters should not tick. If they do, something is amiss.
A bad oil pump (low pressure?) would affect all the lifters, not just one or
two.  If it were my 16v, I'd first try some magic lifter flush from the
FLAPS, it may just be varnished lifters.  Then, possibly a heavier oil,
which would mask the symptoms-not cure the problem.  How many miles on the
engine?
