rocco stories.....how I feel in love... with my rocco

in 1998, finally decided to head out to texas, always
had driven US build car, never a german car, always
wanted one, never could afford one....

Drove to Texas in a Uhaul truck, moved in and started
looking for a new car to drive, the wife was due back in
texas 4 weeks from me landing in the USA.
Went a police auction and bought myself an "abandonned"
car from police auction block,a 1979 280 CE 2 door
Mercedes Benz, twin cam 6 cylinder, for 750$, after
pouring 6K into repairs, it was a sweet car, some time
later (about 2 weeks after all repairs had been done) my
new father in law borrowed it, decide to drive it drunk
and impaled the newly restored (and repainted) mercedes
coupe in a 1 ton twin axle pick up that was parked in
Corpus Christi on a rainy night....

My wife arrived from Canada, I went out and got myself a
jeep,(no longer had cash on hadn and bank was nice nough
to give me 17K to buy a new vehicule), which my wife
stole the jeep under the argument that she was tired of
shifting in traffic.

This is how I enhirited a 1985 8v scirocco, that she had
been the second owner since 1988, it was tired, beaten
and poorly maintained. ex-boy friends had accidents
(running over tree trunks etc etc..). I was disapointed
and ignored the car , drove it daily, after 6 months, I
had gotten attached to the little car, it was very
tired, but yet it kept on trucking along the roads,
never asking for any repairs.

So I started working on her (and she became more
demading with time), my 85 project is coming soon to a
close, (going to make a 3a hybrid engine) and she will
completely done, and you know what, even though I have a
16v with more Hp under the hood...

I still drive the 85 8v 4 days a week, and I still
prefer her over any other vehicule I have had the
pleasure of driving before (well maybe the exception of
the 71 maverick with a 390 under the hood, but for
different reasons).
