INdeed many dealers are crap, but many out there are really good for us.
I can quote 2 dealers I have been dealing with tht I would recommend.

1) Nord-Est Volkswagen, Pie-IX Street in Montreal, QC, Canada, Ask for TIM.
he loves and knows all about Scirocco's
   Even have a 21 Year old experienced mechanic that ONLY does 1988 and
older VW on site, he owns 3 AirCooled Beetles and 2 Sciroccos himself.

2) The Volkswagen Store in richardson, Tx, off I-75 North Bound, THey always
find the part I need in a short amount of time
   and they often come out on the lot to check the car out. the like the
rocco's alot.

I agree for the most part.  The dealer near my parents house...bunch of
jerks.  You know, the type that laugh because you are still driving a
Scirocco, and don't know anything about them.  But, Joe Heidt in Ramsey, NJ
has been very good.  They are willing to do some research for parts I need
and order them no question.  And, when ordering, the part is often there
next day.
