>From looking at ETKA it looks like the bearing sizes are the same between
the TDI and ABA. If you need to clearance anything it will be the sides of
the crankcase and/or intermediate shaft for clearance with the sides of the
connecting rods.
The ABA has longer connecting rods than any other US VW engine at (I'm
pretty sure)159mm. Most engines have 144 mm long rods, so you can get the
correct piston to head clearance either by getting custom pistons with the
pin 1.35mm higher (if I'm correct in thinking the TDI is 95.5mm stroke) and
using the ABA rods or by decking the block 13.65mm and using the 144mm rods.
