Necessity of oil cooler in 16v rocco?

You damn skippy! (this comment was made in fun, I dont want to upset
anyone as it was NOT a verbal attack. Just wanted to be clear on this
before another winefest breaks out.) 

Autoxing doesnt really require the need for an oil cooler because the oil
will cool rather fast when you shut the motor off between runs. Its NICE
to have as it does aide in the cooling of the motor as a whole. 

For track days, you will absolutely want one. I wentto Dubwar on a 103F
day in the 84 with no oil cooler and while the oil stayed below 280F when
I came into the pits, I had low oil pressure at idle. (same thing
happened at Pahrumph which is why the oil cooler goes on as soon as a
couple other things get fixed.) Thats a bad thing. 

Ideally you will want a thermostated oil cooler. But, if you donty have
one, a regular cooler is better than no cooler. No cooler is better than
the factory oil/water cooler.
