bodyman's advise needed

the area around the bottom side of the door is rusted, there is a hole that 
runs almost the length of the door and is about 1/2inch wide at it's widest 
spot. the rust stops right on the edge/bend where the recess starts. it's 
really going to have to be cut out, i know the hole is to big to be bondoed, 
but i'm really not sure where to begin.
