Just before the rivets tried to escape the confines of two of my AGBs, I
was warned with a strange sound out at the wheel. I can directly
attribute this sound to the fact that I still had the teardrops on the
car. The flat, wide face of the teardrops acted like a speaker,
"playing" the rivet solo from the diferential and through the axle.
Sounded, for the most part, like a <thock thock thock>. One time
however, I coulda sworn it was Cesar Zuiderwijk from Golden Earring
durring the drum solo in 'Radar Love'...live! That was near the end
though, must have been an encore.

now, I say 'check it', but there's really not anything you can 'check'.
Crawl under the front and check the code on the transmission plate. If
it's the AGB, you wan to ask if the differential rivets have been
replaced with a bolt kit. Otherwise, that should be one of your first
projects. If it feels funny (i.e. lurching, but not engine related), then
it's about to go. They can also go with no warning. Put a 2" hole in my
case when mine went.

Please, still get the car!

Subject: new purchase questions

I'm purchasing an '87 16V, tornado red, pretty nice condition for $1100.
I think its a good deal, and I was wondering if there are some things
that need to be done.

I'm having the timing belt and tensioner replaced, all other belts
checked and replaced, same with hoses, etc. I guess I just want to know
if there's anything else unique to these cars I should know about.

Thanks.
