fuel delivery problem?

Ok Eric, they "suck" from the tank but if you don't pressurize the fuel it
will never get into the combustion chamber and fire. We are both right, it's
just that we were talking about different things.

I was responding to: "Fuel pump relay: if it worked intermittently would the
engine be able to mechanically suck gas for a short period of time maybe
creating an air lock situation? I know this can be the case in some
diesels...". My point is that the engines themselves (pumps aside) can not
"suck" fuel. Yes, diesels can be air bound, it's happened to me. Quite a bit
recently since our off road excursion on the way to Texas. Have to figure
out what that is too.

> Rick, your dead wrong on diesels. They require no pressure. The pump is
stuck to the motor, and litterally does suck fuel from the tank. Many VW
diesel owners have problems with air getting into the lines from leaks in
the line coming from the tank to the engine, or the fuel filter flange
leaking air into the system.
