(ot) '96 gli?

  my sister is looking at a '96 jetta gli and was asking me about it. i'm 
not familiar with the newer vw's, any thing she should look for? and just 
out of curiosity, what motor comes in a '96 gli? the older gli's had 16v's 
(and some 8v's), but they didn't still make the 16v in '96 did they?
