euro fuel distr.

What's the point of a euro fuel distributor? I mean, o2 sensors are a good thing aren't they? As far as I can tell with my limited knowledge, the o2 sensor helps keep the engine not too rich or lean and aids the knock sensor in making the car not knock. I'm probably way off, but can someone clue me in?
