alternator swap

We are talking tenth's of a volt here not millionth's, Yes meters vary and I
happen to have 3 (Fluke $? can't recall price paid but definitely not the
$300 model,Craftsman $17.99 and a Cen-Tech $6.99 - by the way it's best to
write down who borrowed your meter or you may find you now own 3 when they
come back!) I tested my cars 90Amp under full load (headlights on highbeams,
fresh air fan on high, radiator fan on) with these results:
Cen-Tech 13.79 Volts, + drop 0.028, - drop 0.128 (must have on 200V scale
not 20V)
Craftsman 13.93 Volts, + drop 0.028, - drop 0.123
Fluke 13.84 Volts, + drop ? , - drop 0.120 (Fluke has an
automatic selector and when trying the + drop the meter switches to ohms-
yeah just another reason automatics suck! but it did read the - drop)
With no load but running - drop test from battery terminal to alternator
housing:
Cen-Tech - drop 0.06 to 0.07 (fluctuated)
Craftsman - drop 0.07
Fluke - drop 0.07
Pretty close in range for performing these tests, meters were very close and
the same in some cases in readings, for the average home user I recommend
the craftsman as it was closest to the Fluke and it's loaded with features
although other scales may not be as accurate?
