WTF: weird screeching from drivetrain

Now this one confused the hell out of me...

I was driving around the cabby this morning and when I'd pull to a stop =
(or just get started), I'd hear this loud screeching (just like a v-belt =
would) at less than 5mph. The weirder part is that it felt like either =
brakes were grabbing or the tranny was doing something (god knows what - =
plz, not the 4k!).  I have never seen anything like it...

looked underneath everything quickly and saw nothing...drove it around =
the block after that and heard nothing...

anyone got any ideas? We've got a guest staying with us for the next 2 =
weeks and was planning on letting her take the rabbit around...Looks =
we'd have to keep her within towing distance!  :)
