pulling engine without hoist?



You don't need one...

I unbolt the engine and trans, disconnect everything.
Remove the front wheels, and lower the front end, 
with the engine over an old tire, or something else 
that you can pull on, so that you can slide the 
engine and trans out, from under the car.

You will need a good floor jack to get the front end 
high enough to clear the rad support.

I'm probably pulling the engine and trans out of 
the '79 "Champagene Edition" today, while the new 
owner of the '84 GTI installs a tranny.
