Norton subscription will start fresh with a fresh install.. no need to renew.

Win Me?  Don't "upgrade" XP over the top of it - do a full fresh install,
which you can do even with an upgrade copy of XP - you just need the original
Me CD.  

No backups?  BUMMER!  Do you have a CD burner?  If so it is an easy way to
periodically write your important stuff to CDR's or CDRW's.  If not - they're
cheap now!
