What makes a 2 liter [16v]?

  I don't believe what you described is the squish area.  SA is the area
around the  piston crown's periphery that comes within a few thousanths of
the head at TDC.  It creates a high-velocity jet of mixture when the piston
reaches TDC.  I could be way off here, but what you describe sounds like the
combustion-chamber-in-the piston concavity.
