Subject: Camshaft seal done!!
This is my first time I changed the valve cover gasket on a 16V =
engine. Pain in the ass!! I had to do it because the little moon shaped =
rubber piece and the camshaft seal were spewing oil on the timing belt. =
What kind of f****d up design VW came up with? Couldn't they make one =
piece rubber gasket ?
I managed to get the camshaft bolt out using a breaker bar and the =
17mm hex that I jammed inside the sprocket and the head. Of course, the =
timing belt jumped few teeth and I had to redo the timing. Had hell of a =
time trying to find the little arrow on the plastic cover. Another VW =
creative invention!!
I found out one the bolts in the middle that hold down the valve cover =
had stripped the threads inside the head. Went to SEARS , got a 1/4" =
bolt ,put some assembly lube on the threads, put a couple of washers =
and tighten it down.
