[Re: Cutting springs]

Almost exact same senario here. John E. can attest to the "Baja Edition"
ride height mine used to command. I just waited and saved, seeing how my
roommate's corrado reacted to an improper suspension setup (much how Cathy's
son's car reacted). Now I have coil-overs, and I don't think I'll ever
regret the purchase :)

My experience? I bought coilovers right off. Why? because they would fit any
concievable use I'll ever put the car to (it may in fact be overkill).
But my son? He slammed the poor Jetta by cutting, he's on suspension #3 in
two
years. Broken springs, dead struts, and misc other broken parts, which may
be
due to age or more likely abuse from the cut springs. His total cost? Two
more
times on/ off of the suspension, and probably as much money as I spent for a
top of the line setup. Being older and wiser, I'd say ride it out and get
what
you really want. I rode with at least a 5-6" gap up front and broken coils
in
the back till I got mine. And I'm glad I waited. Suspension is not a place
to
compromise IMHO.
