Removing gas tank..

Do you have to drop the rear axle to remove the gas tank? My gas tank has
alot of rust in it and I was wondering if I got some cooling system flush
and filled the tank with that and let it sit for a while and then drain it
out and do it again if it would clean the tank pretty good. The stuff is
supposed to get rid of rust and isnt supposed to be corrosive. Of course I
would flush the tank with gas to get rid of the excess flush. Let me know
what you think.
