Urgent help needed (I'm an idiot!)

OK, I have tried fixing the simplest of things, and have completely
failed! I was trying to put new door handles on my '88 16v, and now
my driver side won't lock, and the passenger side won't open at all!
Yes, I know that I am an idiot who is all thumbs, and I shouldn't try
to work on my own car, but I did, and now I am screwed!

So here is the question: How do I get my passenger side door to open
again, and why won't my doors lock now? The passenger side door
currently has the inside trim panel removed, so I can get into the
guts, but try as I might I can not get it to open!

Also, does anyone have any recommendations on a mechanic in the
Austin, Texas area? I was going to try to do all my work myself, but
I think this current dilemma highlights that I should not be doing
this sort of thing.







The goal is to overcome the deliberate nature of the process.
