What does the "extra" connector on the oil filter housing do?

There are two electrical connectors on the oil filter housing.  The one on
the top goes to the oil pressure idiot light.  There is another one that is
on the front of the housing.  Is this for an electronic oil pressure gauge?
If so, what range do I need?
