[tech update]: old problem solved! new problem found ): i'm still a moron!

so shannon and victor were right, smoke on the manifold was doing the
smoking. the noise was concerning me, which was discovered to be the tranny
cover plate (which i had cut like an idiot) whacking against the pressure
plate. the bellhousing amplified it nicely, especially since it has that
nice timing hole in it. anyway, retimed, tried to adjust idle mixture (no
fluctuating current at the dpr-bad o2 sensor? project for another day...).
put the spark plug wires in the right order (i knew bentley was wrong, but i
forgot if it was the direction or the order that was wrong), swapped in a
new non-leaky water pipe gasket, noted small leak in radiator, and went for
a drive. hooray. parked with brian m for a celebratory burrito and
margarita. uh-oh. leaking fluid (pleasebewaterpleasebewater) under the car.
$15 worth of new redline on the pavement. shit. couldn't see very well where
it was from cause it was dark, but the prelim diagnosis is a bad mainseal,
or that little guy around the pushrod. these i replaced when the tranny was
out, so i'm guessing i either didn't put one in right (pretty sure i did,
but my luck has been subpar for this project) or got a bad/wrong seal. and
so the saga continues. i'm tired of this. if a mechanic will replace the
seals and cover plate for <$200, it's his. otherwise it's yet another wasted
weekend coming up.
