I don't have personal experience with any local wrenches (except Classic
Volkswagen in Escondido, avoid them, IMO they are nice guys, but
clueless...)  Shawn?

Just an update on my '81 Gross Polluter S:

I installed a new O2 sensor and cat and it passed--oh yeah, I also changed
out the K&N (didn't have time to wash it out) and put in a slightly used air
filter.

Here are the measurements. The top part is when I failed, the bottom is my
passing score:

The old cat looks fine, so I don't know if it's actually bad. The "innards"
seem to all be in tact, and I can see light through most all of it. I can
see some of plugging, but not a lot--maybe 5%.

I am planning to have my CIS professionally tuned though, as Eric and others
suggested. Anyone have a recommendation for someone that can do it for me in
SoCal? You know of anyone Shawn? Larry?
