The theory is a beautiful thing. The reality is, the heat interchanger
box is full of leak prone seams which not only allows the transfer of
heat between the oil and coolant but also will allow the fluids to mix
together as well. Oil in the coolant, no real big deal to a point.
Coolant in the oil, that's a whole new box of crap. Also keep in mind
that these heat exchangers are anywhere from 15-18 years old. Im sure the
designers had a life expectancy of 7-10 years at best.
