10.1 brake question

I'm confused by the recent thread about brake upgrades and master cylinder
swaps. I know it is asking a lot to get a consensus from the list or from
any list for that matter but here is my question.

The facts:
The car is an '86 Cabriolet. (I'm secure enough with who I am to drive a
chick car!)
'87 Cabriolet cylinder installed due to the failure of the original.
10.1 brake upgrade with stainless lines.
Rear drums original.

The question:
What symptoms will there be that dictate that the master cylinder must be
upgraded to 22mm?

Currently the brakes are great. no excessive pedal travel and hard as a
rock. If I install A3 rear disks what will happen? I have a 22mm master
cylinder, booster and pedal cluster but there just hasn't been time to
pursue a swap that does not appear to be necessary.
