RE: [engine] idle hunting...



Had this same problem on both the 88 16v (sold) and the 87 16v (have still), 
what I found is the following

1) the throttle body it self is carboned up (carb cleaner and spray)
2) the throttle arm was not retuning all the way and hitting the idle switch 
(clean throttle body and adjust idle switch per bentley)
3) the air idle screw oring seal was disintegrated (replace) but before you 
do spray carb cleaner in there and blow out carbon

I did these on both cars and idles went right to 950 and smooth when the a/c 
is turned on idle goes to 975 to 1000 right on the mark.

Try this it is a inexspensive fix and commonly over looked, why most pepole 
put injector cleaner and and say I good. But in reality our injectors are 
down line from the TB, doh!!!!!!!!!
