Alternator help... please!

I replaced my alternator last night and it should have been cake, but nothing
is ever easy, right?

Here's the story... '87 Scirocco 16v w/AC

-Replaced my alternator with a remanufactured Bosch 90 amp (same part # as
original.)
-Set belt tension according to Bentley, reconnected all wires to proper
terminals.
-Turn ignition to on (but didn't start it) and the alternator light does not
come on, but it should.
-Started the car, and measured a solid 13.7V across the battery, car is running
smooth... everything looks OK except for the idiot light not working.

To test the bulb Bentley says to ground the blue wire (for the idiot light)
that connects to the same terminal on the alternator as the starter and
solenoid... did that and the light came on.

next test is to look for voltage between the blue wire and the alt terminal...
that is in spec as well.

At this point Bentley is inconclusive... Could this be a problem in the
alternator itself? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance, this one is driving me nuts!
