I contacted the department of VW AG Germany today which is responsible for
VW-Clubs
and reported the matter to them.
They were irritated and apologized and will check what will be best to do
now.
At least it was a good feeling that aside from all the people on the
Scirocco-list
VW of Germany is willing to help me !
I will keep you updated what they suggest to do now...

I took the opportunity to try and run down the owner / operator of the
domain the email appeared to come from as it's been registered in Rochester
NY. I was not able to get any satisfaction, as the phone numbers went
no-where. It's possible this is a weird hoax, and I might consider asking
(perhaps in German :-) ) for proof of authenticity. Just a thought...
