RE: FI Start problems

heheh here is some info from bentley (time to get yourself one bud! your
mssing out on a LOT of important information)

Hot start relay according to p5-25 item 5.3 (hot start pulse relay testing)
is located at position 14 on the fuse/relay panel
this would be :

(top of fuse box)
[19][20][21][22[19][24]
[13][14][15][16][17][18]

now mind you on my 85 [13] is non existant( empty slot) so 14=13 15=14 for
me.

diagnostic of a bad hot start relay; if the hot start pulse relay fails to
operate during hot starting.it will be difficult or impossible to start the
engine. a leaking cold valve may alsio cause hot starting problems and
should also be tested.

to test hot start relay

1. run engine until the coolant temperature is at l;east 104'F (40'c)
2. disconnect the coil wire from the center of the tower of the distributor
cap and ground it to the engine, using a ground wire.
3. remove the two screws holding the cold start valve to the intake
manifold. Without disconnecting the fuel line or the harnessconnector.remove
the cold start valve from the intake manifold and point the valve into a
transparent container.
4. observe the cold start valve while a helper actuates the starter. if the
system is operating correctly, after approximatively 2 seconds the cold
start valve will spray fuel in regular pulse.
5. if the valve does not pulse, remove the harness connector, connect a test
light across the connectors, if the test light pulses then the cold start
valve is faulty and should be replaced. If the test light does not pulse, it
is either because the pulse relay is faulty, or because voltage or ground
for the circuit is fayulty.

there ya go in all of its integrity.

Where is the hot pulse relay located? My service manual makes
no mention of it at all.. And how do I tell if it needs replacement?
Maybe its time to use my Haynes manual to hold my sunroof up...
The phone book that's there now is proving to be more useful.
