German Engineering -- From the BMW list. :)

Heh, this is a fun coincidence. No sooner than I wrote my last post to the
list on this subject, I check my mail, and in from the BMW list is the
following e-mail. :)

Enjoy!

Jason,
Amen to your frustration..... add seat cables that in 16 years are still crap.
Maybe that rumor we heard on the digest about BMW talking with Toyota about
their valve timing solution is a first step.

Amen to that! The crap parts they keep turning out year after year that
would be easy fixes really is amazing. I love the cars but hate some of the
same continuos problems that have always been the same for the 12 years I
have been driving these cars. CHrist, I don't want to drive a Lexus but at
least they build them so they don't have all these small problems. Maybe BMW
should get some Japanese engeneers to build the A/C, Power steering pumps,
some of the suspension components, and electrical systems. It would save
them a bundle in warranty claims.

4 new VW's in the family ,still german, no warranty problems, cheaper, and I
still drive the OLD BMW's.

 > If you can move a front wheel backwards and forwards with your hands, the
front control arm bushings are shot. It's sad that BMW AG can't put a
bushing in these cars that lasts more than a couple years. The outer metal
shell of the E46 front control arm bushing is twice as long as the E30/E36
bushing and probably has twice as much rubber too. Unfortunately, the
bushing does not really last any longer in the E46. With 20k miles on my
2001 E46, I'm getting them replaced under warranty next week.

brakes. The bushing doesn't even come close to being adequate on a 3300lb
E46 with more than twice the HP and lots of tire. I hope the engineer at AG
who specified the current bushing was sent out immediately for his/her MBA
before any more damage was done. This kind of engineering leads to other
horrors such us the under-reinforced E36 rear subframe mounts and the
magically disapperaing rear suspension.
