Well, you can go either way. You should be able to pretty much "drop in" a 16v.
Other people on the list would be better to ask, but I'm pretty sure you don't
need the CIS-E fuel injection, so you can keep what you have. If you go to a
2.0L 16v, you'll get a NICE increase in power! You should be able to find a good
whole engine for $600-1000, and you'll be ready to go. You might also want to
consider going to 16v brakes and a transmission with 100mm output flanges.

If you want to go turbo 8v, be prepared for the road ahead. There are many
successful projects, but they do take a lot of work. If you are patient and plan
it out well, you can see LOTS of horsepower! Bentley Publishers (yup, THE
Bentley) puts out a book by Corky Bell called Maximum Boost. I've been reading
it, and it is an awesome resource. I haven't built the turbo system for my 16v
yet, but I'm started down the road and feel confident that someday I'll be
there. There's lots of websites that can help, too, particularly the Turbo 8v
website (www.8vturbo.com). Check out the links page on www.Scirocco.org.

What do I need to convert a 8v scirocco to a 16v scirocco.  I was
thinking about just taking the head off a 16v and just using it.  Is this
a good idea.  Plus I was thinking about just saying for get it and turbo
charging the 8v.  which is a better idea?
