Re: Premature AC removal(questions)

Try this. I just did this on the 2.0 swap I performed. FIRST GET BELT
#(7374 Gates) OR (2375 Bando) OR (15375 Dayco) OR (15382 Goodyear). You
will also need a spacer...read below.

Remove the cast bracket. I sawed the top portion of the alt mount on the
bracket with a hack saw...gotta have guns. This will leave the bracket
mounted by the two nuts that come through the water pump housing. Down
where the A/C comp pivots is going to be your new pivot point for your
alt. VERY IMPORTANT: The alt will not fit unless you grind a portion of
the bracket away. It's where the alternator mounts at the pivot point,
on the back side of the alternator. (As looking at the mount on the car
from the front, the right side.) Remove your stock pulley and put a
spacer behind it about the same width as the large "washer*" already on
it. (*Washer: The large disk with a divit in the center to clear the
woodruf key. Mounted between the pulley and fan) Mount the bracket solid
and the alt at the pivot points loose. Take the adjusting arm and turn it
upside down so that it looks like a check. I took mine to the vise and
put a clean zig zag into it to get it flush with the alts "ear". You'll
notice that the lowest part of the arm will interfere with the fan but
don't worry. With the belt in place, the belt will tension and the fan
will clear the arm.

While the alt is out, that's the perfect time to get the condensor outta
the way too.

Contact me if you have any problems.
