AGIP Sint 2000, it is synthetic oil I think 10W40.

VR6s run hotter than the 4 cyl VW motors.  Plenty have already
responded, but I'll share my experience to help your friend's peace of
mind.  I had a 95 GTI VR6 and a 97 Jetta GLX.  I saw oil temperatures of
260 (127) in both of them when running the cars hard for an extended
period of time.  I saw high temps on the GTI when hauling ass across
Montana when there wasn't a real speed limit and high temps on the Jetta
cruising 110+ on Alt 89 in the middle of nowhere in Arizona for about an
hour and a half.  120 does seem a bit higher than normal, but still
nothing to worry about.  What weight oil is he using?
