The problem sounds like Vapor Lock.  This is caused by gasoline in the fuel 
lines evaporating and blocking fuel from moving through effectively.  Vapor 
Lock is caused by a lack of pressure in the fuel lines.  If the pressure in 
the lines stays elevated, the fuel won't evaporate.

Possible causes are bad one-way valve on the pump, bad pressure 
accumulator, or leaky injectors.  Check the fuel pressure and residual 
pressure and you'll probably find it falling off more than spec after the 
engine is switched off.  If so, go through and find the culprit.

2 Questions:  1.  How is your fuel mileage?  (Leaky injectors usually 
contribute to poor overall fuel mileage), and 2.  Does the car smell 
horribly rich and/or smoke black when it finally does start?
