This is *exactly* what I have been wanting to make for my
16v...I was thinking about redesigning the front motor mount
all together. I never have liked the "ball and socket" front
mount and thought that I could design some sort of front
cross member brace that would incorporate this new front mount.
I have my senior project coming up next year and was thinking
that this would be a good candidate...maybe I'll just do this
project now (since I am getting worried about my own 16v
cracking!)

The factory front motor mount doesn't do a very good job of
distributing the load from the engine, IMHO. I believe that
a brace would help to take some of the load off of the cross
member and distribute it to the bumper mounts more.

Any thought on a better front mount? I was thinking of using
the factory bracket that bolts to the starter bolts and then
just do a little cut'n weld for a different mount...

Obviously, this is a growing problem with those of us who are
running higher torque motors and those that autocross/race...
