Re: Clutch pedal Question

Hey, I made that mistake last week!  The clutch cable just needs to be adjusted.  There is a spring in the pedal assembly that works against you for the first inch of travel or so, then it helps you, so if you end up activating the clutch in that first inch (because the cable is too tight), it's really hard because the spring is not helping you out. Also the cable is so tight that it never actually releases the clutch, so that will cause it to slip.  Adjustment should take you <5minutes with a 17mm open end wrench and about an 18" piece of 2x4.

Shove the 2x4 under the clutch arm on the bottom of the transmission, wedging it in place between the arm and the ground.  That will take the pressure off of the cable.  Then go up top and adjust the cable.  Might be best to release all tension off of the cable (disconnect the cable entirely) and let that arm on the transmission swing all the way down.  You can then move it by hand until it meets resistance.  You want the cable to hold the arm just slightly below where it meets that resistance, I think.

If I'm wrong there, someone tell me because that's how mine is adjusted!

Sincerely;

Subject: Clutch pedal Question

List,

    Should a clutch pedal be kinda hard to press down? (Stiff) Springs up fast when disengaged?

    I just had a new clutch put in my car and the pedal is not nice and soft like my old one. "My old one did not slip"

Thanks,

Dan Kraus :-)
