i had a single plug wire go bad (30 mins on the way into the cincy trip,
argh). note it was not the coil wire (that you changed). what coaxed the
wire into going bad was my just pulling the wires before the trip to change
the plugs, and i guess it aggrivated it enough to fail. result was low power
that only showed up above 3000 rpm. idle was perfect. miss was audible when
reving at idle. seems similar to your problem, as it kinda acted as a rev
limiter. i also noticed that the problem was much worse with engine under
load. timing light pickup may be on the very same wire thats bad, try using
a different wire for the pickup. also, i've noticed some timing lights go
crazy in severe timing jumps/reving and 'miss' the light flash for that
fire.
