Yeah mine did that for a week, then it burped and dropped the coolant level
from MAX to below MIN in the tank
I refilled it to MAX and now the temp quite reasonable on mine and the fan
works too.

too a 3 days of driving around town to get them "burp" effect.

Sounds like air bubble trapped in the block. Havent gone back and verified
all the post you made BUT,  did you refill the system by pouring liquid
down into the block via the upper rad hose?

This is a good way to avoid getting air trapped int he engine, even when
you have lots in the Rad.
