funky wood trim

OK, I've got one of those mk1s with the funky wood trim stripe across the
front of the dash and a faux wood instrument panel. I am swapping the
instrument panel for one of the silver ones, but I am not sure what I am
going to do about that strip. Does anyone know if this is removable (without
causing damage to the dash)? If so, how do I do it?
