that is controlled solely by the ignition switch
thats your culpret
info i can get from bentley (granted its for 85, but it may work on yours):
black wire should have +12 in both 'on' and 'start'
red/black wire is the starter line (should be pretty bulky)
jumpering from the power supply line (red), to the black line should allow a start (although it will
also keep ignition on all the time as well), but at least you will know for a fact that its the
switch.
