Little blue wire???

I need to know what would cause the battery light in the cluster not to work, 
i know it has something to do with that little blue wire, mine is hooked up 
but its still not working, thats why i need to know exactly what else could 
cause this,....bad alternator possibly??, any help would be greatly 
appreciated!
