brake fade tech discussion. IMHO :-)

Hey ya'll there is some good and bad information on brake fade going on
out there.

The primary cause of intitail brake fade is as the fluid gets warm it
transfers the heat to the rubber hoses and metal hoses. making the rubber
hose more pliable. When the rubber become warm it expands much more
easily. when you press on the brake pedal you push an incompressable fluid
with a very high boiling point into a pipe. if there was no rubber hose it
woudl move the piston in the brake caliper a fixed distance based on the
displacement of fluid. BUT the hoses that connect the metal brake lines to
the calipers expands in volume therefore descreasing the volume of fluid
that gets to the brake caliper piston and moving it less.

source #2
the seals in a piston assy(master clyn or wheel cyln) is bad allowing
fluid flow by the seal, there less fluid moves the caliper pistons.

Source #3
Boiling the fluid. changing the incompressable fluid to a compressable
gas.

Hey all you smart people out there can chime in too.

This is why bikes come with dual disk (cross drilled), 4 caliper pistons
on most stock bikes and why the #1 mod for bikes is stainless steel
braided brake lines. It prevents rubber expansion and massive brake
fade...
