another one, dammit

  well, i had another scirocco follow me home tonight after i showed it
$100. it's an '87 8v (makes '85, '86, and '87 8v's with an '84 8v parts
car from a few months ago) and it's white or all colours. needs some
work (wouldn't be a scirocco if it didn't). as for the problems, well,
i'll need some help here. i haven't had a chance to look the car over
real good (cold and dark plus a dying flashlight make it difficult) but
there are a couple issues that need to be addressed.

1) it has this annoying three note chime when the key's in the ignition.
this has GOT to go.

2) some yahoos slashed both tires on the drivers side. never mind the
front tire was less than a month old. it's also got crappy steel wheels.
i have two sets of tarantulas but would like to trade for something
else. anyone in/near the central ohio area have some they might want to
trade (most all designs will be considered)?

3) the drivers side door needs to be picked up slightly to close the
door. looks like an easy fix, but....

4) this is the most important and will determine if i part the car or
keep it whole. apparently half a block from the service station where i
picked it up, it decided to spin a rod bearing. i've been told that
nothing's locked up (have to see it for myself) but i'm not going to
start the engine until i find out for sure. my problem is i have to find
out where the oil leaked from (saw it dripping on the trailer on the way
home). hopefully i'll find out in the near future.

  all in all, the car's not in bad shape for an '87 from michigan. some
rust that needs to be attended to, but i think it could be worked back
into shape. now i'll have to decide which project to do first....
